Hulbert garden

Contemporary Craftsman

The Hulbert landscape is a contemporary-designed garden in which color played a fundamental role in unifying the elements of the hardscape, accessories and plantings. The front garden is based on a grid emphasized by terraced walls that extend the horizontal lines of the concrete paving. The placement of olive trees and other plantings further strengthen these lines. Anchored by bench walls, the stair of slate and bluestone reinforce the grid. Colors for the house were chosen to harmonize with the stone and the color palette theme.

The rear garden was designed to view as well as to entertain guests. The colorful fireplace becomes the focal point, infusing an ambiance of warmth and intimacy. Punctuated by a cobalt blue urn fountain, the cozy sitting rondel of rough stone is a counterpoint to the smooth concrete patio grid. The dining area is enclosed by the pergola’s geometry. Sensory stimulation pervades the garden: textures, colors and forms that create visual excitement and surprise, sounds of bubbling water or crackling fire that soothe the soul and scents that intoxicate us.
